“Dialogues: I Symmetry” is the first EP in a new collaboration between Richard Blake and Luminate Records. It seemed fitting that his first project should celebrate a regular musical partnership, the one he shares with fellow trumpeter, Tom Freeman-Attwood. The title refers not only to the sensation of hearing two very similar timbres playing off each other in a clear stereo image, but also the structure of the programme – 20th century fanfares open and close the EP, with fantasias by Orlando Gibbons bookending a wonderful three movement work for two trumpets by Eugéne Bozza.
Richard and Tom met at the European Brass Ensemble, and often work together in the UK with orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, and the Ulster Orchestra, recently sharing Principal Trumpet duties on a project with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, recording national anthems for use at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
