
Carys Barnes - Viola
Carys Barnes is a violist described by Philip Dukes as ‘a young musician of exceptional promise and flair’. Carys has played with some of the leading orchestras in the UK and abroad including as Principal Viola with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Slovak Sinfonietta and Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and as Co-principal with Ulster Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
She graduated with a first-class degree and DipRAM from the Royal Academy of Music studying with Martin Outram where she won the Theodore Holland Viola Prize in her first year. She is currently studying an Artists Masters in Advanced Instrumental Studies with Matthew Jones at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is a MMSF Fellow with the Philharmonia Orchestra.
She has also taken part in masterclasses with some of the world’s leading violists including Laurence Power at the Erben Music Festival, Thomas Riebl at IMS Prussia Cove and Kim Kashkashian. She has
performed solo recitals around the UK including at Southwell Festival and Haselmere Festival.
